Local Philanthropy & Service
In addition to raising money and awareness for arthritis and related diseases, our sisters recognize the importance of giving back in many other ways.
Alpha Omicron Pi pushes its members to not only better their own lives, but also the lives of those around them. One of the ways that the women of AOII do this is through philanthropic events. Alpha Omicron Pi is nationally paired with the Arthritis Foundation. The Arthritis Foundation leads the charge in the fight to find a cure for arthritis, a non discriminatory disease that affects the lives of millions worldwide.
The Delta Nu chapter of Alpha Omicron Pi at the University of Nevada does their part in raising money for this cause. In the fall there is a week long event held that promotes arthritis awareness and fund raises for the Arthritis Foundation. In the spring, we pair with the Reno Aces, a minor league baseball team, and sell tickets to one of their games as a fundraising event.
The Delta Nu chapter is involved with other philanthropy events as well. Last spring, Alpha Omicron Pi partnered with Sigma Alpha Epsilon to put on an Easter Egg Hunt for the children in our community.
For Halloween, Alpha Omicron Pi worked with the genltlemen of Sigma Pi Epsilon and created a haunted house, to get in each guest needed to give a small cash donation or a canned food item. All proceeds for this event went to the local Food Bank.
Early on in the 2105 school year, the women of Nevada's Alpha Omicron Pi chapter participated in the Buddy Walk. This event was held by the Northern Nevada Down Syndrome Network. The walk raised awareness for down syndrome and helped fund raise for medical bills of local children who have been diagnosed with down syndrome.
Members of the Delta Nu chapter of Alpha Omicron Pi are passionate, motivated, young women who are very involved with their community. Philanthropy is not only something that we see as a duty, but also as a joy. Giving back is something that we, as a chapter, are blessed to be able to do.
